Use some high quality braided stainless line (Aeroquip is my preference) and route the line along the engine cradle and up to the carburetor.

So I take it you have an Edelbrick carb?
A good (and safe) rule of thumb is to run as little rubber hose as possible. You want to run a steel line from the regulator, and you can run it along the firewall to where you will make a bend towards the engine. Then a rubber or braided hose from there to the carb, if it's not a real long run. If you're wanting to go braided all the way, then it won't hurt to run that in place of steel line.
