Exclamation engine swap. need some help.

alright i have a 89 camaro rs with a 2.8 v6. and i have a 84 buick lesabre with a 307 and a 350 trans. i want to put the 307 in my camaro. the problem i have is that evryone tells me that the 307, 305, and 350 are the same to simalir blocks. just different heads. now is it even possible for this swap to happen? if anyone could let me know it would be a great help.

Yes, anything is possible. I dont think you will get quite the results you are looking for, but this will deffinately be a fun trip. I say go for it, it will be much easier than doing this to a 4th gen and its a great lerning experiance. Are you going from or to an auto / stick situation?

what kind of fuel delivery is on the 307? is im assuming carb, but tbi may have been .8 possible back then. the 2.8 liter in yer camaro uses an in tank 50 PSI fuel pump, that is WAY to high for TBI and carb uses a mechanical fuel pump. i am not too sure if the firing order and such are the same on the 307 but TPI may be a easier option for this conversion.

Externally, dimension wise, yes they're basically the same. But internally, they're not "one size fits all" blocks. And are you sure the Buick has a 307 in it? The 307 is a Chevy engine, used from 1968-73. Obviously a transplant could have been performed, so you know for sure it's a 307? And honestly, I wouldn't go out of my way to put in a 307, I used to have one in a different 69. But it sounds like you have a free donor engine, so have at it since the price is right!

My thoughts exactly. Hopefully neither car is your daily either, you will be out for a while with this project. Lithorian brought up a good point as wel Fuel delivery, what a pain. heck there is a ton of stuff you will need to do. The list is large and the price tag larger - at least you already have two major donor parts so that les money and time.

Oldsmobile had the 307 as well, and they used it well into the 80's.

In Front Wheel Drive cars definitely. Didn't know they put them in rear wheel drive as well, as in the O.P.'s rwd Buick in question?
If that is an Olds/Buick engine, then I change my response to "I certainly wouldn't put that in my Camaro".

I would think it's the olds/buick 307... We had a 86 olds station wagon with the 307 V8 and my dad had a 85 olds something with the 307 as well... Really crappy motor. Horrible gas mileage and a DOG.

The Buick 307 is based off the old Buick 350. I always considered the 80’s 307 a better engine then a 305. Buick didn’t build a HO version but many of the Olds 442’s had the 307. There should be parts around to add a little HP down the road.
I put a 307 in a 80’s Monte Carlo that came with a 3.8 and my first comment would be how is your welding? Motor mount had to be made. They may be available but my friend was low on fund also. We cut the motor mounts out of the frame of the donner car and bolted them to the engine. We positioned the engine where we wanted it and welded them in place. I think I remember I could not put the engine right where I wanted due to the oil pan. Exhaust will also need made. The exhaust manifolds are not in the same place so the 305 Y-pipe will not work. Since engine is a bit wider the 305 headers will not fit either at least not in the Monte. FYI: It should not effect you since you are doing engine and trans but the 307 has the Buick/Olds bolt pattern on the tranny not the standard Chevy pattern.

I would think if you are not good at fabricating metal it might be easier/cheaper to sell your donner car add a $100 bucks to that and get a 305 out of the donner Camaro with the mounts and exhaust. I remember thinking after we where done with the Monte we should have sold the 307 and bought a 305. We must have had 10 trips to the hardware/Parts store. Each time was $10-$20. The project turned out OK the guy kept the car for 3 years.
