Any gen 1 style small block V8 engine will fit in place of your existing 305.

 

the ring gear may be different, due to rear main seal difference
the dipstick is on the opposite side,
there is a hole for a mechanical fuel pump you may need to block
the coolant temp sensor hole is a different thread
but it will fit
