Changing 305 TBI -> 305 carb
 

Good news, sort of. I found a local shop that will rebuild my 305 and convert it to a carb setup for $2,200. Carb > TBI The shop in question specializes in restoration of classics. They have several 70's Trans-Ams and a couple of C3 Corvette convertables sitting in their garage at the moment. :D I'm looking forward to this I think, it will give me the oppertunity to cheaply make power since carb power is abundant. I just can't do turbos. Blowers on the other hand... :D

So what sort of power numbers should I expect? And secondly, how much $$$ would it cost me to get to my target of 300-320bhp and 320-350lb.ft. torque N/A with no forced induction or nos?

My problem is budget and space, these guys hit my budget limit exactly @ $2,200. Since I haven't posted here yet let me give you a bit of background. My brother's MR2 is currently in the garage undergoing a restoration/modification. So I do not have the space for us to do this ourselves. Secondly, I do not have the time to do this myself working two jobs. Thirdly, I do not want 6 billion horsepower nor do I want a car to race--street or strip. My goal is to get 300-ish horsepower and fully restore the rest of the car like new with a few tasteful cosmetic interior and exterior mods. This will be my daily driver and not my hotrod. The hotrod comes later when I have the time and space. :D

Oh, and please no "just get a 350" comments. Those are getting rather old, I do not want a 350.

$2200 should get you 300hp, and even more if you did it your self, are you reusing any of the old parts like crank rods, the heads, you get the point. it all depends on what they are reusing and what you are putting new back in,this all depends on what kind of power you are going to make.

I don't have the time or the space to do it myself. I have no idea if he wll be reusing the same crank, rods, heads, or etc. Assuming he is I don't see how that alone would get me 300bhp. Remember the $2,200 is the total amount for the parts and labor for the rebuild--so I doubt there will be any performance parts installed extra. Just basic tuneup items and a new fuel pump most likely. He said he will be reusing any accessories that are still in working order. So would it be a good idea for me to take in a set of heads, cam, and etc for him to install after he gets the block machined? If I do that the price will most likely go up due to me getting used parts that will need to be refinshed/polished/machined or whatnot. Or is it just better for me to just buy a blown engine with stuff already on it for the rebuild? Either way I want the CHEAPEST route possible that does not involve me doing anything myself. If 300bhp isn't obtainable for a reasonable amount of extra money on top of the $2,200 then I just won't worry about it. Would probably just be easier if I just installed a blower. ;)

although i dont know anyone who needs a 300 horse camaro for thier daily driver but whatever

rather have the shop do it and stand around taking pics then post them here
im doing the same thing described on thios link this winter if i can save the money
