Default Alternator and drive belts problem

Hello,

My drive belt and my alternator just broke down!

I bought all the new parts but I don't know how to adjust the drive belt? It seems that the belt is too short! I have a V8 5.0l!
How should I adjust it? Can you explain me how to do it?

I put some pictures: 2 pictures of my motor and 2 pictures of the old alternator

It is the same with all other serpentine belt cars. That thing to the left of the alternator and to the right of the A/C compressor with the pulley coming off of it is called the tensioner. Take a large breaker bar with a socket to fit the bolt on the pulley. Pull towards the drivers side and the pulley should lift up, giving you enough room to fit the belt under it. Just be careful as this method usually involves lots of knuckle busting and finger pinching...

A couple of corrections: as statedthat pulley to the right of the A/C is the idler, butNO socket is involved. See the raised tab on the idler? A 1/2" breaker bar fits right into the square hole. And while standing on the Passenger side of the car, pull the bar towards you, or push down depending on the position of your bar. It doesn't require a lot of force to move it. I also see you were hacking away at the nut on the alternator. It's a lot easier to try and loosen it while the alternator and belt are still in place to help hold it still. An impact will spin itoff easily, but you'll have to fightit with a breaker bar and hammer if trying by hand.

My bad, just never done one on one of these before. Most cars I have used the breaker bar method...
