I have the chance to get a 1992 RS V8 with 109,xxx 5speed good condition for $2700. Does this seem like a good deal or should I keep looking. I also know the guy that has it and he doesn't beat on it. Also, how much hp does the RS V8 have for those years. I was looking online and found 170 hp which seems kind of low for a V8 are they fast?
Thanks

Look at autotrader.com and see what the cars sell for in your area. I got my 91 RS with 170k for $2500. It was adult one owner and well maintained. The TBIs are dogs! But a five speed helps to manipulate the power they have.

Your last question "are they very fast"? The answer is NO they are not. The 92 RS you are looking at came with a TBI 305 V8 @170 HP & 255 #/Ft of TQ. the 5sp was mated to a 10-bolt 3:08 gear ratio with a open rear (no limited slip) stock. About the high 15sec 1/4 mile. Due to the Heads & Cam these engines DO Not have the internals for large HP increases. Most Add on will be limited to about 20/30 Hp at Max. So if you plan on a fast car look elsewhere. But the gas mileage will be good because that is what they were designed for.

What kind of shape is the car in, any rust and is the interior good? This summer, I bought a 91 RS, 117,000 miles from the original owner for $1,000. It had been sitting for a couple of years and not running, so I needed to replace the fuel pump and filter, rebuild the TBI,replace thewater pump, replace the battery, and give it a tune-up. Total cost for the car, under $1,500! The original owner was a real gear-head and I could tell it was well taken care of...it has no rust and the interior is mint!!! Knowing the owner has value, and if it's been taken care of and is in real nice shape, and if he's willing to come down a little in price, so much the better. And yes, the 305 isn'ta street terror, but it's a bit quicker and more fun to drive than my 2000 Monte. And I don't need a road map to find the engine either!
