get a cheap one.
I got mine cheap, and as of right now, I have spent 3k fixing it up.
I have yet to drive it.
It's an '83 Berlinetta, but when I finally get it done, it should be a 350, 700r4 auto trans fairly quick tire smoker.
I don't need to be the fastest, but I would like to surprise the crowd once in a while.
After the break in, I'm looking at NOS.

I would recommend getting some reading in, both here, and get a book.
I like "Rebuilding the Small Block Chevy" video book.
It has 2 hours of video you can play on your computer or DVD player and you will get a real good look at a basic carbed rebuild.
Chilton's and Haynes really suck as real life guides, but they still have good information about the specific model, though it is not very user friendly.
Google will be your best friend, and the guys here have run across almost every problem, and you can search them out on the site here.
I am rebuilding my first Camaro, though not my first Chevy, but it has been a few years, so the research was really helpful.
