1991 Camaro RS engine ideas.
SO I have 1991 Camaro RS that I purchased a few months ago, it was a missouri car and in very very good shape. Not it had a motor swap done by the guys the previous owner bought the car from. It has a 400 small block 6.6L and a t-5 5-speed transmission. I have done some upgrading in the rear end since I bought it but not much else. I put in an eaton Detroit locker posi unit with a 3.73 gear ratio.
I had the car dynoed and it made 2560 hp and 410lb-tq to the crank and 210hp and 325lb-tp to the rear wheels. Not I have some money I can put into this car, my goal is 500hp and 500lb-tq to the wheels. I would like some advice on options to go in terms of this motor. Should I upgrad the 400sb or switch to a ls1/ 454bbc/ 383 stroker? I have around $5000 to play with for just the motor. Any ideas would be awesome!

Well I'd build the 400 since you have it and the car is set up for SBC although if you are looking for 500/500 you are going to need more than just motor work. The 5 speed will probably not hold that kind of power nor will the 10 bolt rear for very long doing hard launches and if it's a plain old stock Chevy clutch it won't either. It gets expensive to build a 500 hp car, everything behind the motor has to be built for that much power which will cost as much as the motor build, subframe connectors, driveline etc. etc.. Those dyno numbers don't make a lot of sense, the long stroke 400 makes a lot of torque but 325 at the wheels with only 210 hp? How did you get the crank numbers? At any rate unless you have a lot more money I'd set more realistic goals than 500/500.I would assume at 210 hp that 400 is a stock motor,a good intake and carb combo with a cam upgrade and headers if you don't already have them will bump it quite a bit and maybe not destroy the rest of the drivetrain.
