You need to explain what you mean by the car not starting all the way. I am assuming that the white smoke out of the intake happened after the engine was stopped. It could just be moisture boiling off, it could be unburnt fuel, or coolant getting into the intake. What did it smell like?

You posted about your car smoking before and was given some good advice, but I don't see where you followed any of it. You also need to stop jumping around and concentrate on fixing one thing at a time.

i took off the intake system and cleaned it last night and the fuel fliter i replaced and this morning i went to start it and it made a weird noise so i popped the hood and had white smoke coming from the intake, didnt smell like gas. so removed the valve cover to check it. there was very little smoke not like the intake.

Sounds like the engine backfired through the intake. have you put everything back where it belongs after you put the intake back?

yes im pretty sure i even took it back apart to make sure of the and to see if i see ne thing wrong. i didnt see ne thing, but i new to the restoration thing ive replaced a diesel engine in a dodge before replace the injection, turbo and exhaust, on the same truck so i know a little but im new to v8 chevy 305 tpi

May want to take a good look at spark plug wires & make sure they are connected correctly. Crossed wires and improper ignition timing can result in back fires.

so, you removed the distributor and the intake manifold?

If not, what exactly did you remove because saying intake system might mean one thing to you and something else to another

You took something apart, put it back together, and now the engine doesn't run. It's obviously something you did. But since none of us were standing over your shoulder watching, we need more details on exactly what (everything) you "took off".
