i know the last part.how good do the 305s get with a carb in a camaro i was thinkin a 4.3 cuz i do not need awful has mileage and they are pretty powerfull to for a stock six. if i went with a camaro 305 i would still have to change the bell housing wouldnt i?

the 4.3 will bolt up to the car if it had a 305. however, the 305 has better fuel economy and more power than the 4.3. i would get 22mpg with my camaro on state roads with traffic lights, but my s10 blazer only gets about 16 in the same driving situations and only weights 900lbs more. a more powerful or larger does not always get worse economy. its about how you drive it and where the power is usable. the 4.3 doesnt come alive until after 3k, so it needs more throttle input to get it moving. however the 305 comes alive around 2200, and needs less throttle input to make the same amount of power

Yea the 2.8 S10 got bad Gas mileage also. I went and looked at one of these 4.3 convertions. It drove better then the 2.8 but not as nice as the 305, as expected. The reason I went to look at it was because it was down to $700. He could not get rid of it. No one wanted it. He did not do a bad job converting either. He told me he had one other guy look at it because he need boby parts. Something to think about. Couple hundred bucks more for 305 might pay for itself down the road.

i dont know what was wrong with your 2.8, but both of my brothers had vehicles with 2.8's and got great mileage. my brothers 91 s-10 regularly got 30 mpg, although it was a 5 speed short bed. my half brother had a buick with a 2.8 and it regularly got 30 mpg or better. he gave it to my neice who has now run it past 400,000 miles and it still gets better than 30 mpg.
