I recently purchased a 91 3.1L V6 Camaro with a Manual Transmission, For Practically nothing...
The Body is in great shape, Brand new tires, Brand New Clutch, 101,000 miles, Fiberglass Turbo hood, The Interior is in mint condition, No visual oil leaks at all... Really quite a steal.
It needs a fuel pump, which is no big deal... considering I only paid $300 for the Car.

Now I understand the basics of A v6 camaro in regards to upgrading performance, Basically Limited to Cold air intake, exhaust, And a Short throw shifter, Nitrous also but meh..
I've seen someone who had their 3.1 Turbo'ed but I assume the means tearing down the block, porting the intake manifold, fabricating custom headers, and swapping pistons.. which in that case if i had the money to do all that i'd buy the T56 tranny instead.

Anyways What I was wondering is.. Is it at all possible to put a TPI motor in or a a carb'd 350 Small block with the manual transmission it has in it now.... I know that in a perfect world a T56 tranny swap would be ideal... But I dont have that kind of cash to spare. So Basically what im asking is, Has anyone done a V8 swap w/ changing trannies? Im thinking more along the lines of a Carbed 350, but i know where i can get a Tuned Port 305 or a Tuned Port 350 for a relatively cheap price. Do you think the tranny could handle the TP 305? Or any Small block for that matter

depends on what you want

you could fab up a turbo setup w/ stock manifolds and a custom ypipe, LOTS of room to work with

you'll need a V8 bellhousing to go on your current 5spd

 

With time and money everything is possible. LOL The job should be simpler if you used a donor car and carbed small block. Putting the 5 speed behind a hot V8 is not the best idea, and I am sure there are going to be some issues with bolting the two toghether. If you are going to go with a fuel injected engine, you will need the computer and wiring harnes that goes with that engine.

 

First Off I want to say That On all the Users of this forums BadinfluenceRS and Z28pete are the most helpful (Shnormo as well but i havent seen him lately)

As for the turbo... Do I have to do any internal mods to the engine? (Im not planning on running a ton of boost) And is there anyone that has a write up or pics of a turbo set up on a 3.1? I ve seen someones video on Youtube so I know it is possible..
What turbo would be reccommended? A Garret T3/t4 hybrid perhaps?

As for the V8.. Yes I can get the computer and wiring harness from the Tuned port 305 /350 as well.
I might be able to purchase a donor Formula TA with the Tuned port 305, With an auto tranny everything runs great, it just has no title. (Don't worry, I know the guy well.. the cars not hot ;p )

Im really kind of leaning towards turboing it.. or whichever is easier.
