i want to put a 3.4l DOHC in my 1988 camaro rs HELP?!?!?!
so i have a 1988 camaro rs with the 2.8l v6 and i know the 3.4l OHV v6 will basicly bolt right in as the bellhouseing and intake bolt patterns are the same but i want to put a 3.4l DOHC v6 in it i know it was only made for a FWD car so i will have to drill and tap out new motor mount holes, the bellhouseing bolt patern is the same but what i need to know is will a RWD 3.4l OHV v6 intake system fit on FWD 3.4l DOHC v6 block, if so will it clear the 3.4l DOHC v6 heads as they are bigger than the 3.4l OHV v6 heads, and does the 3.4l DOHC v6 have a place to put a distributer like the 3.4l OHV v6 dose?
.......PLEASE I NEED HELP ON THIS ANY INPUT WILL HELP THANKS...... |
Not a good idea IMO. The font drive blocks do not have bosses for the motor mounts, so you will have to improvise. The engine is huge for its displacement. I have one in Pontiac GP in my back yard. The egine puts out 210 HP with poor low end torque, and there is little equipment available if you want to modify it. Many people do the opposite and do away with the twin cam and replace it with a late model 3400 to 3900 for better fuel economy and up to 240 HP in stock form.

ok witch year 3.4l or 3400 would be the best choice, i read somewhere that a 94 camaro 3.4l is the best
|
the early 4th gens had a 3.4L, its the exact same thing as your 2.8, all your parts will work, you just need the 3.4 injectors.
|
thanks!!!! when i find a 93-95 3.4l i'll let you guys know how it go's

I'm not trying to be an ***, but I don't understand why you are doing this. You are going to spend a lot of time, energy, and money. Why one v6 for another?
|
bacause mine is tired it has 267,000 km on it and the 2.8 has a lot of flaws, poor low end tork, so on.... and i want feul econemy so the 3.4 is the best answer, i plan to use this car as a daily driver many years to come
|
Hmm, I still don't understand. If I wanted fuel economy with a peppy engine it wouldn't be a camaro. There are much better options out there. It sounds like a lot of money time and effort. Realisticly, what is your expected fuel economy? How much different would it be with a well built FI V8?
|
it will also cost more to swap a v8 in to it, i'd have to change the wiering harnes, bellhousing, intake, motor mounts, basicly everything!!! i'd even have to swap out the t5 tranny as the gears are for the v6, where as with the v6 i can use the same bellhousing, intake, heads, manifolds, motor mounts, tranny, ect, total cost for the 3.4 in around 600.00 for a used one and 1200.00 for a new one

Seems to me he wants its out of personal preference.
