91 v6 problem getting to stay running
hi, im having some trouble getting a 91 RS 3.2L V6 to stay running.... It will start up and run for 3 seconds and cut off.. it gains oil pressure at start up and seems to have adequate fuel pressure.. the fuel pump has been replaced.. checked the fuel filter for flow.. replaced distibutor cap and rotor button.. replaced the plug wires.. pulled codes and only code i got was a 22 for the TPS.. replaced that today and its still doing the same thing... checked all vacume hoses.. checked the terminals on the coil for corrosion..
Is there a fuel pump reset switch(inertia switch ) and where should it be ?..
I dont have a gauge to check the fuel rail but i did the screwdriver test and had fuel to the rail..
fuel did come out but it didnt shoot to the hood like i excpected.. it kind of poured out..
the firing order is right .. if the injectors were crap would it even fire at all and run for 3 seconds??
..anyways.. im a backyard mechanic at best and i need some advice from some pros on this one.. i appreciate any help...

RE: 91 v6 problem getting to stay running
Try getting a fuel pressure gauge to test your fuel pressure. It's not that expensive. That way you see if the vehicle is priming the rail before starting. It'll also show if your pressure is adequate or bleeding down. One thing comes to mind is the fuel pump powers up by an oil pressure switch. It islocatedon the oil filter housing on the drivers side. If yours is bad then the fuel pump won't run but will still prime for a few seconds before starting via the ECM. Try jumping the two terminals at your ALDL. I can't remember which exact terminals but a rep manual should illustrate it.

My buddy just bought an '88 2.8L V6, and he's having the same problem. It'll start, but when Idling in OD it will stall if it's sitting for more than five seconds, literally. If it's in D it takes about eight seconds, about the same for 1 and 2. I'll chech fuel pressure tonight, there's a fuel pump regulator on these, right?

kcocgibkcusuoy, yep it's got a fuel reg. located right underneath of the upper intake plenum. The fuel pressure test port is located in the back of the fuel rail.
