th 350 kickdown cable.
I want to alter my shift points a little to my liking, couple questions before I make a move.
Does the kickdown cable on a th 350 affect any pressures at any throttle position except WOT. Does it modify shift points at wot or replaces the effects of the governor
And modulator has on shift points
I would like to spread the low PT shifts. do I try a stiffer spring in 2-3 or weaker in 1-2.
Or save time and buy a shift kit. I looked at some shift kits but it doesn't specify enough
I dnt want to preload my detent and shorten the trans life if that's true.

The detent cable works in conjunction with the vacuum modulator and the governor to control up and down shifts. But the detent cable doesn't control line pressure like the TV cable on the 700R4 does. If the cable isn't connected, it will cause sooner upshifts, and no downshifts. If all you're after is altering your shift points, install an adjustable vacuum modulator. A shift kit or shift improver kit will also let you firm up the 1-2-3 shifts, if chirping the tires at upshifts is what you're after.
