Default 383 CID build

I am wanting to build a 383 block that can rate at least 475 hp. i have never done anything above a 4 cylinder 200hp motor and am wanting to try my hand at this. any info on where i can find an engine blue print for this, have been looking but have had no success.

plenty of sources on youtube, of course there's manuals and other books about rebuilding. it's pretty much same thing as a chevy 350, it's much heavier than 4cyls since iron and most 4cyls these days are aluminum, so get a good engine stand. always be careful inserting the rings, gapping if necessary just don't overgap, and use torque sequences, this is a must. i'd also go with new headbolts for the hell of it. if you're boring out a 350 to get a 383, you'll need machine work done on it. and for the crank, use a 400cid crank - verify all of this, including the crank, before actually going out an buying it as it's been a while with me doing chevy engines. if you have not yet bought a 350, get one with 4 bolt main caps, and when selecting all the rotating asm parts, you'll be able to do forced induction

You can buy a complete stroker kit from Summit that includes everything from crank to pistons, all matched to each other for less than $2k. You can't just slap together parts to make a 383. Everything will be determined by what you want to do and your budget. You can easily spend a $1k on just the crank, but it'd be good for 1000hp.

There is LOADS of info on the internet to building a 383, but there is little machining tricks you won't find, like smoothing the oil return holes in the block or opening up the oil pump and smoothing it out.

Also, you don't bore a 350 to a 383. You stroke it and with that comes machine work for both boring the cylinders .030" over and machining the block for 4 bolt caps (unless you're starting with a 4 bolt block), line honing the mains, rod clearance, decking the block etc.

Yo can buy a 383 from Summit with 430hp and 450 lb-ft of torque for a little over $4k that's balanced and blue printed. And if that's not enough, you can always spend a little more and swap the cam, bump up the compression and put better heads/intake on it.
