Won't start
i have a 1986 chevrolet camaro im not sure on wat submodel it is but i think RS it has a 2.8L engine and an automatic transmission i just replaced the ignition switch and the battery but it still won't start it just turns on and the service engine soon light comes on but it wont crank let alone start. i have a haynes manual and ive looked through everything i just cant figure out the problem

check all your fuses. could be the starter neutral/park enabler, have u tried it with the shifter in neutral, maybe move the shifter a little while turning key. test the small wire on the starter to see if its getting juice when the key is in the start position. see if u can find a factory shop manual for your yr. look like this

thanks for the help guys the alternator and starter were good i changed acouple fuses and i forgot to plug in the neutral switch i believe is what its called. but i got it started now i have a loud knocking problem to solve my dad thanks its a rod what do u guys think.

i just bought the car about 2 weeks ago so im still learning about it when i got it the interior was completely apart i put it back together. also it had a bad battery so i replaced it ive tested the alternator and its good ive changed a few fuses and i had to buy and install a new ignition switch. its an 86 camaro looks like an rs but im not sure has the 2.8L multi-port injected engine with an automatic trans. fluids are good and air filters r good.. it needs alittle body work and ill try gettin a recording.

knocking is not good. can u locate the source? if its from the oil pan i would agree with dad. check to make sure its not the exhaust hitting the frame or body. u may want to start looking for a 350 and a transmission to go with it.
