wont idle... 305 TBI
what a nightmare...engine will not idle nor rev...revving makes it backfire and ball of flame thru throttle body...
new tps, cat conv, rebuilt injectors and fuel pressure diaphram...
no codes show up which drives me crazy...compression in all cyl were good (165-180)...O2 and EGR fairly new...new fuel filter...iac seems ok...
and no damm codes show in obd...
any ideas and help appreciated...

***** of fire out the intake usually indicate a timing problem. Make sure the ignition timing is properly set, then start looking at cam timing. Did it start running bad all of a sudden, or have you changed anything?

thanks for the response pete...
was adding freon to ac (car was idling) and it cut off...ever since when starting had this problem...did not over fill ac...
it is hard to check timing since i cant get it to idle and can only keep it running by "feathering" the gas pedal...but will not rev higher than say 1500/2000 rpm before it throws a flame or fireball out tbi...seems to get a decent flow of fuel thru both injectors with good 45* spray which was not the case before cleaning up the two injectors...
gas may have been bad initially but ok now...
oh...its a 90' camaro

Change your distributor cap and rotor to start with. Your cap could be carbon-tracked, causing a cross fire. And if the weather is damp out, that can make matters worse. Might as well do the spark plugs and wires too if they look old.

i did put a new cap and rotor on...during the compression testing the plugs did not look great due to the way it was firing/running...plugs are 15k and wires are about the same...
car does start but wont idle or rev high before spitting fire...the only way i can keep it going is to feather the throttle which makes my leg tired...
keep the suggestions coming cause we are bound to hit the right remedy...
thanx

ok...double checked the firing order and its ok...
had a buddie pour fuel in tbi as i started it...ran smooth but would eventually use up all the gas and then die...
so maybe there is a leak in the gasket seal and the base of the tbi...gonna pull it again and check...
but at least that let it run a little bit

sometimes the balancer will rotate on the hub making it impossible to time, not to mention dangerous.its worth checking ,i also would verify the static timing.are both valves closed when its on #1? if so where is the rotor button pointing?
