What to look for in a rear end?
Ha ha, that title got ya, huh?
Im looking to get rid of my pathetic highway geared rear end. Ive got a stock posi in my 82 Z28. I have no RPO code list in the console so I dont know what the gears are. Other than spinning/counting, is there a way to check? Secondly, Im gonna start checking junkyards for another rear end. I want something in the 3.73 range. Were there any production models that came with a ratio close to this? What other vehicles will fit?Again, how can I tell. Most of the boneyards by me are all overgrown and covered with weeds and getting under the car really isnt an option.

RE: What to look for in a rear end?
is it still on the car? if so:for manual leave in neutral.lift and support with jack. spin a back wheel, if both wheels spin in the same direction it has posi.for the ratio: count how many times the drive shaft rotates as you spin the wheel one full time.
any 5 speed car with the performance axle RPO G92 has 3.42:1 that i think is the highest one that came in these cars.
