Default What do you guys think???

I just picked up a 1991 Camaro RS with the 305 and I have been informed that it is a strong runner with a few issues. The body is incredible even compared to Camaros I have seen around here for twice the price. So my question to the wise is what is the best option (I know its a matter of opinion but I would like to hear). First option, Rip out the 305 completely rebuild it and put it back in or....... Crate motor either GM or Autozone I have been told that you can get a 350 for roughly 1500 smacaroos but I have absolutely no experience with crate motors so maybe someone wiser than I could give me some insight. thanks for reading and any suggestions are greatly appreciated

Umm....if it's a strong runner why do you want a new motor?

If you simply want more power there are a lot of options but that $1500 crate engine isn't really what you want, fine for a garden variety passenger car or pickup truck that needs a repower but it's not a performance engine.
You might want to be sure it still has a 305 and not a 350 conversion since you say it's a strong runner,it would suck to replace a good 350 with another 350 lol.
You'll have to spend over $4000 to get a good mild performance engine be it a crate or a rebuild on a 350 block.

If you find a good deal on a rebuilder engine and the right engine builder maybe just maybe with some shopping around for deals on parts you could do a motor like this for less but it will take time and luck.
The crate motors are new engines with a warranty so there's that to consider too.

If you really want power look at a 383,more money of course, this doesn't have the bolt ons and is over $5000.

If you want a fast car go with a 350.

no if you want a fast car, buy a ZZ4 383 Crate Motor, or stroke a 350, or you could destroke a 400.

Default Just to clarify

In my first post I was misworded it I wrote "it was a strong runner" when I should have wrote it wasn't. Sorry for that. Second when I went to get the car from the "stealership" (I put a deposit over the phone based on pics and talking to the salesman) when I got there to pick it up he said "oh yea you can start it right up and drive it home I just wouldn't trust it on long trips" so I said ok lets go start her up after 45 min of it starting and dying the battery died I got my $ back and bout a different 91 RS with a hell of a motor and a Bondo body. just figured I would clarify on that. I just didn't wanna sound like the kid who didn't know whether he was selling his car or not

You should have gone with the car with the better body. Batteries are a hell of a lot cheaper than bodywork.
