WHATS UP FELLAS. I JUST BOUGHT A 88 CAMARO RS FOR A STEAL. now according to the vin its a 2.8 liter, but that's not what's under the hood. it a v8. so I checked the block casting number and it is #460778. unless I'm wrong isn't that a 78-79 305? now I'm not going to bother spending 1k or so on performance to beef it up. not worth the time. I rather and maybe planning on rebuilding a 350 instead, but I need some sites to buy replacement parts. it runs but you know tune it up a lil..

You're right about what is is, and the vintage. You need to do more numbers research to find what it came out of. And also check the head casting numbers, don't automatically assume they're the ones that came with the engine. This site is helpful: Camaro Decoding help on Chevy-Camaro.com

The "K" in your suffix code = McKinnon engine plant. 027= Feb 7. CRU= 1978, 305, 145 hp, 2 barrel, from a G-body car. G Body Chevys were the El Camino, Malibu, and Monte Carlo.
The 18D in the partial VIN is 1=Chevy, 8=78 (was also used in 68), D=Doraville (Atlanta) vehicle assembly plant.
So your engine came out of a 78 El Camino, Malibu, or Monte. To try and pinpoint it further than that, you can look up VIN's, to see if those three vehicles used a different number series among them, to overlap with your 408456 from the partial.
