some cams you can run with the stock PROM, but's usually best to have one burnt to match the camshaft. no you don't have to change the fuel pump to change the pressure but you do have to buy an adjustable one. you can make yours adjustable , but it's alot of trouble and worth just buying one. yours will be between 11-15psi from the factory (usually closer to 11) if it is 11 i would start at 15 and go from there. the reason most people change to an aftermarket fuel pump is the OE pump is junk. Walbro makes a killer pump that is a OE replacement but flows more psi and L/hr.

theres a lot of work involved, and for what you will spend for the cam, computer, the wiring harness, and all the things you will need to upgrade/replace, id just plunk a cam, air gap manifold, and a good 4bbl carb on there.

You would have to change the fuel pump because you need 40-50 psi for your tpi and the tbi pump does not do that. A regulator will make the pressure go down from the max.
Walbro makes a killer carb on my weedeater also.

Allright thanks guys, but yea it won't be that expensive i figure about $300-350 for a quality used tpi setup, then a new fuel pump, and im paying someone $300 to do it. Thats definately worth the hp in my opinion.

just did a TPI swap on my 86 Monte SS..

you HAVE to change the pump, the pressure will not be enough, also you must replace any and all rubber lines to the fuel injection line otherwise it could be catastrophic. if you need help with wiring just shoot me a PM or email

i was talking about adjusting the fuel pressure on a TBI not the TPI. the TBI runs 11-15 psi . the TBI fuel pressure regulator is bolted to the TB and it can be made adjustable with alittle time on a bench. the TPI runs 40-50psi and is adjusted by a regulator mounted on the fuel rail. if you convert tbi to tpi you will have to change the pump. but don't put a pos O.E. or autorip pump in it. get a walbro pump and a adjustable fuel pressure regulator and set it at about 47 psi....there is quite a bit of power hidden in the fuel pressure of the TPI cars and the walbro pump will supply the pressure and volume to keep up where the O.E. and O.E. replacement pumps dwindle off.

To tell you the truth your not going to get the horsepower your looking for by just doing a tpi swap and your going to spend more money doing it. I also suggest switching over to carburated, get an edelbrock performer intake and a 600cfm carb and your good.

Na I'll get the horsepower I'm looking for fromt the tpi. I'll get a cai, 58 bbk tb, and the holley stealth ram intake unit; a little while after i do the swap. That will definatley give me good hp, and it outflows the **** outta tbi and it'll be better once i get heads cuz if i got new heads they wouldnt even do much with the tbi.

i have seen dyno runs of before and after a EFI swap, true enough a carb makes more peak hp , but the same engine (only change was induction) made better average hp with the EFI. also the car the engine was in shaved off 4 tenths of a second in the 1/8th , and got 5 mpg more , with better drivablity. so the "put a carb on it if you want to makepower" tale is rubbish.

92camaroRS...do you know if that stealth ram will fit under a stock hood?
