Default Temp gauge issue/question

I apologize if searching would have assisted but whenever i searched for temp or temp gauge I was told there are too many results.

My 89 TPI iroc Z's temp gauge is the only one that does not seem to work. While driving, it pings all over the place. Sometimes showing at the lowest it can go, sometimes pinging around sporadically, then sometimes going past the labeling on the gauge.

Now because of how it's acting I'm guessing it is due to a faulty sensor, but is there anything else that could be the cause? Could it indeed be my gauge?

Thanks,
Bez

Will do. Assuming the connections are fine what would be my next step? Sensor itself?

assuming that connections are good i would pull the sensor out wire brush it clean and put it back in ee if it helps. then move onto replacing it and lat resort replace the guage. if im missing anything somebody alert this dude.

Sounds simplistic enough to me, and makes sense.

Thank you mtn.
