Default t-top repair job? :P

I was stoked when I first got my 89 iroc.... the t-tops didn't leak in a car wash like my 85 z28 did... Now granted, car washes are absurd and not a good idea for any t-top car but hey.... I don't always have time to hit the back yard and wash it so I figure i'd do it the quick way...

Well long story cut short, my left arm got a bit wet.... I expected a drop or two from them but this was a decent puddle.

Looking at it, looks like the one seal is starting to tear.. it was like this when I got it but now it's getting MUCH worse from the door closing on it / window rolling up and down all the time.

The other seals seem ok, but this one is getting worse....

I'm looking for a way to repair this as I cannot find JUST that strip online, only whole kits.

Money's a bit tight since I got a house, otherwise i'd just redo all of the seals.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Bez

mine are torn on my car but i dont have any leaks at all. the seal that keeps most of the water out is where the glass meets the inner rubber. after 20+ years of a door being against it, the rubber doesnt fit as tight against the class. the flap is really just a drip edge to keep most of the water from contacting the seal. now when your glass is up, doesnt it wiggle at all? the felt strips on my door were worn out from someone closing the door by pushing on the glass. as soon i replaced them and tightened it up, it sealed fine. another thing you can do is spray the rubber with wd-40 to soften it up and see if that helps. and to repair that strip, you could try "extreme repair" from loctite. it is a rubbery epoxy that ive had good luck using. if that doesnt work, you could use a large peice of shrink tubing, cut it open and lay it flat on it and see if that helps.

Excellent. Thank you. I'll take a look and see if my window wiggles.... I think it does so that would explain it.

Ill tell you this much.....think LONG AND HARD before contemplating to replace those t-top seals. My old seals took me 2 weeks to scrape out! What a job that was!

Well, the good news is that it doesn't wiggle... however that strip I think is what's causing the problem. Basically I believe when the window closes it wedges between the seal and the window, causinga bit of an opening.

And yeah... those seals look a ***** to replace.
