Talking Switch by E-Brake?

Hey, all My husband and I just (TODAY!) brought home our new project baby... 1991 Z28. No owners manual, and this is our first project car.

My question is this... right in front of the emergency brake, there is a switch and neither of us has any clue what that is for. Is this something any of you might be able to answer? It doesn't look like a sloppy aftermarket add like some of the stuff on that car does atm, but who knows?

Also, do any of you know where we can get our hands on an owner's manual for this car? I've done some looking online, and haven't found one yet.

Thanks so much

I used to have a 91. Is it a squarish switch that slides towards the back? That would be for the electric hatch release. If you're getting no response, yours isn't working. I'll look on my home computer and see if I had a pdf file of an owners manual. I can't remember, but I did have the original one in print that went with the car.

Mine should look somewhat similar- the three switches to the rear of the gear lever are the electric windows and the hatch release in the center.

That help at all?

Thanks for your replies... no, it's not the hatch switch or windows, this switch is actually down in the well where the brake lever is. It's directly in front of the release button at the end of the e-brake lever.... hoping it's not a seat ejector, or we're dead

Saint, I just looked at the picture you posted and don't see the switch on yours. If you follow your brake lever forward to the button, the switch on our car is directly in front of that release button actually it sits probably about an inch lower than the button down in the well.

It's either that or it activates the machine gun turret! What you are describing isn't sounding like a factory installed switch, somebody added something. I had an optioned out RS, and that ejector seat switch wasn't on it. Go ahead.....push it!!

OK... so... here's what I did. I put my little bro in the passenger seat, cranked her up to 100 on the highway and told him to flip that switch. The result was not what you would expect or hope for, the t-tops did not fly off and eject my little (34 yo) bro onto the highway with a parachute and a prayer, and the machine guns didn't come out and clear traffic for me, but... the foglamps that were hidden under le (hideous) bra did come on. Mystery solved. Thanks for your input

***parts of this story may have been fabricated much as was the mystery switch.

Oh, well, that's not a lever, it's actually a huge rust hole. Same basic effect, though... HA!!
