Default swapping from a 2.8 to v8

Hi I am looking at an 88 camaro this has a rod knocking on the v6 engine. I do not mind because I would like to drop a v8 motor in it anyways. I've searched around on the forum trying to find the info I need, but I am missing a few things I'd like to know. So far I have read that it is easier to swap to a carburated engine vs a 305 or 350 tpi. A carb engine is fine with me, I actually would like to put a 350 or 400 small block in there. Will this mate to the tranny in the car? Its stock. Sorry for maybe a newb question but I tried searching and did not find much. If anyone has insight and how difficult or easy it will be id appreciate the comments thanks
