Our 1988 Camaro has a lot of wobble in the adjustable steering column.
What is the cure?
It is annoying in a tight curve.
The answer probably involves pulling the steering wheel, eh?
Let me know your tips, please.
thx

There are four bolt down inside the colum. They loosen up. They are pretty deep down. It is a very common issue. This is one of those jobs that is pretty quick for someone who knows how to do it. For someone who has not done it before I would call it a learning experance.

I used to do them all the time. But it has been a long time. Is it tilt? I think they are harder. Pulling the wheel is the easy part. I think in the non-tilt unit you just need to pull the turn signal switch. I think with the tilt wheel you have to take a part the tilting part of the colum. There are some special tools required.

There is also a tool for pulling the pivot pins in the tilt wheel.

Yes, it is a tilt steering column.
I have a simple puller, and you're right, that is the easy part. Next i need the U-shaped tool you showed, for the steering wheel lock plate. This is getting in there deep.
Any danger associated with this slop in the column at the tilt area.
Will there be something to tighten then when i get in there. or is it a U-joint item that could be worn? i've never been inside a tilt column before.??
Any tips are welcome,
thanks.
