Default Removing a/c evaporator box

Do I need to take the dash out to remove the evaporator and the box on my 83 Z28? Can I do it with the headers on? Just looking to get rid of it so I have no problem hacking it up if I have to. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Ill try to remember to post when I get back in town this next weekend... I did this when I put the 350 in... mostly because it was annoyingly in my way and I never planned on putting ac back in

You wont need to remove the dash... I tore the top off and the evaporator pulled right out the top... then I took a hammer and chisel to it carefully and chopped it out making sure not to damage the blower fan housing.

This left me with the issue of the blower fan not being able to blow into the cabin... also there is a set of cools that control fan speed that have to be in the box where the air blows past and cools them...

I bought a section of ductwork like you'd use in your house and cut and shaped it to fit the contours and screwed it in place with self tappers...

Like I said ill try to remember to post pics for you... feel free to ask any questions... you can email me at aspentrainerfritz (at) gmail (changed for scrollers)
