Default Rear Hatch motor trouble!

hello,

my 1991 camaro RS 5.0 has a problem with the rear hatch lift/motor. it will open and close with the key and the switch. Normally when this happens it lifts the trunk hatch up and releases it. the problem is it doesnt lift up andymore and sometimes doesnt even release it. this wouldnt bug me so much if it didnt make such a racket. Would it be the motor or would the whole thing have to be replaced? input??

thanks.

There isn't too much to that system. Some relays...reversing swich, motor, and frame. If it doesn't release anymore it sounds like something is loose on the release mechanism. One you get it open, make sure you get the striker and lift mechanism aligned, and make sure the release mechanism is tight, if its loose it won't move the release out of the way of the striker. If you can't diagnose which part is bad, you can purchase a new unit from topdown solutions, or maybe even Hawks 3rd gen..

Go to topdownsolution web site and download the instructions for repairing the hach pull doun. They also have all the parts you will need.

Major items that should be replaced:
1) motor if defective
2) plastic gear *
3) nylon sidles *

* major items with most failures

Sometimes you have to search a site....But here it is:

Look on the left side for a heading called "Information" then drop dowm to "Documentation".
This will than take you to the download for "Hatch repair instruction".

That is the best I can do for you.
