rear end gears
hey everyone, just a quick question about rear end gear sizes. i know that there are aftermarket gear sets in 7 5/8" with a ratio of 3.42 and 3.73, but what other options are out there? the car will have a 383 stroker in it with a TKO 600 5 speed trans. any help would be great.

RE: rear end gears
I have the same size differential as you and there are alot of options for you. I do not know what the stock size for your car is but here are all the ratios I found 3.08:1, 3.23:1, 3.42:1, 3.73:1 (RARE 3.90:1) 4.10:1 and that is as big as you would like to go. If you want acceleration go with 3.73:1-4.10:1 if you want top speed 3.08:1- 3.42:1 You can check google shopping or an online auto store for them like summit racing or JEGS. Hope this helps.

RE: rear end gears
as far as stock they went from 2:42's(not sure how common this low of gear was but i know they did come with them as i have a posi from a 87 in my garag with that gearing and its stock) all the way up to the 4:10. after market thou you can get just about anything, thou the most common and easiest to find are 3:42, 3:73, 4:10, and 4:56 for the real ground breaker
i know jegs offers the following gears-2.73, 3.08, 3.23, 3.42, 3.73,4.10, and the 4.56 depending on what your gearing was originally. if your looking for a daily driver with good gearing, 3.42's are the way to go if your just looking for a weekend car 3.73 or 4.10's, if its a pure drag car then either 4:10 or if you got the right tranny and engine profile then the 4.56. |
RE: rear end gears
its more of a summer car, but i was leaning more towards 3.73's, thanks for the input guys.

RE: rear end gears
yeah if its not a DD i would def go with the 373, their enough where youll never wish you went more, but still low enough that taking it out for a cruise wont destroy your wallet.
