If it is a true HO matching numbers engine, then yes it would be a Z28.

Well, an easier way to find out would be to check the body styling... a Z28 has extra lower body styling on it, check out Jr. Mechanic's '83 Z28 compared to my '82... that's an easier way of finding out if it's a Z28 or not, the motor could be swapped out.

That can be true bobarian. But it's easier to add body trim panels than swapping engines. So it can look like a Z28, but not necessarily be one if someone upgraded the "look".
