PROCHARGER: Pros/Cons

right now my camaro is my primary driver. i have a project beater that i will be working on after i get all the work done on the camaro. i got a call today from an acquaintance, and his dad is selling a procharger system for the 85-92 305/350 tpi camaro, and mine is an 86 305. right now, i am pretty much stock. however, i am upgrading a few things come spring. here is a list of things i will be doing:
headers and y pipe
race muffler for cat "farm use" and "classic"
jet chip
cap, rotor, hi-po coil, wires, plugs
2 core aluminum radiator
injectors possibly
heat sink tranny pan
sub frame connects

i am also looking at possibly a throttle body, definatly if i do get the procharger.

the system was offered to me for $1250, and is supposedly a complete kit, ready to bolt on. im lookin for some pros/cons to running it on the stock cam, stock internals. i also have some other issues, the worse being a leaky oil pan and timing chain seal. im sure that by the time i would install the procharger, i would be at college where i can take the engine out to work on it and id have another more effecient vehicle to drive. i would plan on running about 6psi, and keep the stock 2.73 rear end or go to a mild 3.23 rear.

RE: PROCHARGER: Pros/Cons

Hey, I've always planned on going with ProCharger too but there's a guy who works for my dad who runs a Pro Stock Truck in the NHRA. He was running a procharger and the procharger broke like half the races last year....he said they have some major quality issues so he threw it away and went with a roots style blower. He's been making about 2100 horsepower on a 642 big block. He said he was supposed to be running about 24 psi of boost and the procharger was putting out like 30 psi and causing him to burn pistons and stuff....he pitched it...bummed me out sinceI always wanted run one myself. Maybe you should look at it before you buy it.
