Performace

This summer I plan to buy an 1988-1992 Camaro.. All the ones I found have a 305.. Can I drop in a 350 and keep the rest stock? Or do I have to do modifications? If I choose to keep the 305 what can i do performance wise? Thank you very much

the 305's CAN be made quick. a member (sicksicksick) has a 305 in the 12s, but hehas stripped that thing to the bones i believe. if you want to go the easy and lesser-headache route you want to find a car with a 350 already in it. the swaps are possible, and reletively easy as far as motor swaps go, but thats a major job. if you go carbed 350 the swap is pretty straight foreward

A carbed 350 swap is the easiest way to go.
Yes if you swap the motor the rest can remain stock.
Everything off a 305 can be put on the 350.

maybe as far as accessories go. but the 305's and 350's have different intake manifolds.

Huh? Its all a SBC. Intakesshould bethe same, other than post 87 models IIRC

An engine swap in and of itsself is not that hard. Give yourself a full day to tear the motor down, another morning to pull it out, another afternoon to drop new engine into the bay and about 2 full days to carefully hook everything all back up, check and double check, and finally fire her up.

Please please please, make your life easier and buy a super long 3/8' extension to loosen/tighten the motor to bellhousing bolts. Those bastages took me about 2 hours to take out on my first swap.......took me 15 minutes with the long extension.....

depends on what you want to do, if you want a drag car, then strip the entire car. all wires and everything, start with just a roller with nothing in it, and build it from there.

or if you want a street car with some zing to it, then take the 305 and junk it and slap in a 350, you will have some xtra wires left if its a throttle body engine, but a 350 in one of these is pretty potent, even a lower hp
