Default OK kids, I need some stereo advice. Dont confuse me.

Alright you youngsters, I need to upgrade me stereo. Let me first say that Ive done ALL the go fast mods I can do to a 350....this isnt some rice wannabe 3.8 POS with a fart can..... (see my sig line) But I want some bump...

Now, my music....I listen to very aggressive, techno/industrial based evil stuff. None of that glow stick rave crap....we are talking SAM, Reaper, Nurzery Rhymes, Dawn of Ashes, Combichrist and KMFDM.....

My setup...Ive got a run of the mill best buy head unit, some decent 6x9's, and 2 12"subs in a custom box with a 1000 watt amp hooked to em. My problem is that with my screaming, distorted vocals and 240 BPM beats, it all sounds like **** when you reach ear bleed level. (Im assuming its because my **** is all old and wore out)

How can I improve this system while 1) Staying under 600 bucks 2) Avoiding rewiring a bunch of crap 3) not getting too complicated....box, sub, amp.....dont wann go much more.

OK kids, heres your chance to fire back at me for all the **** Ive given you for all the dumb *** engine questions you asked.....

First thing I would try is putting bass blockers on all your highs and mids, it should help a little with your distortion problems from those speakers and its a cheap fix.

They are still kranking out some serious stuff. Their newest album, 'WTF' is epic. Just saw Combichrist a few months ago at a small venue in Ithaca NY....also amazing.

Bass blockers? Pep boys or high end stereo shops? I hate going to those stereo shops, they are staffed by nothing but 19 year old punks who can tell you all about how much money you should dump into a stereo but couldnt change their own oil if they had too....

Yup that's pretty much it. With the type of music you listen to I'd recommend turning the gain down a little on your amp also.

I've run bass blockers in the past, they don't work as well at high volume levels, they tend to get noisey. I have found the best set up for me is one mono block for the subs and a separate amp for mids and highs. The amp in the headunit can't handle the current demand of heavy music listening. I run a h/u with six channel 3v perouts, four sats and two sub. The customizable crossover allows me to set the emphasis and level on certain frequencies. The set up works better than trying to cut the frequencies out after they've been amplified. It drastically reduces noise while greatly increasing efficiency, in the end clean sound at high volumes for extended periods of time. Now, with what you have, for $600, I suggest a good amp for the sats and run a good set of shielded RCA's from the source to the amps, set the highpass filters and let the amps take the load. You can get good deals on amps on ebay.

You can also try installing a capacitor it would give you a cleaner bass. As v8 said your system would sound a lot better with a separate amp on your highs and mids and that way your bass doesn't overrun the actual music.

My amp runs to solely my sub box. What are these crossovers and capacitors? Im honestly running RCA jacks from the H/U to the AMP, AMP to sub box...its all very simple. (thats how I keep anything electrical)
