No heat 1989 rs 305 v8 tbi camaro

Hi guys i just bought a 1989 rs 305 v8 tbi camaro and it has a few things wrong with it. One main thing is that the heat doesn't work. So I will try to explain the best i can on what happens . If i start the car without the heat turned on it starts right up and runs perfect . But if i start the car and try to turn the heat on the car will idle up and down and will do so for about 2 or 3 minutes then idle normal but still no heat. Any thoughts on what this might be

Thanks for any help !

does the blower motor work? (getting anything out of the vents?) I always let the car warm up for about 3-5 min before turnin on heat. Anyway, if its just blowing cold, try back flushing the heater core. or worse, replace the heater core.

Air blows out just cold . I have let it run for 25 minutes and still cold .....Do i just run a garden hose to flush it out ?

well, just flushing the cooling system is a help, but I take both heather hoses off at the water pump and intake, hook up a garden hose to my hot water heater and blast hot water back and forth for about 10 min or until its clear water coming out on both ends. and just watch the crap go gushing. could not be heater core though. maybe blend door too....kinda reddneck but it has worked for me couple times....

ok ill give that a shot ....and then ill just go from there . So i just unhook everything and drain everything and flush the whole system ?

yea pretty much, put a sprayer at the end of your garden hose and use hot water. hell replace the t-stat since your in there!

ok thanks for your advice !

Your heater core could be all clogged up. Another thing to check is if your thermostat may be stuck open. How well and quickly your engine warms up will tell if that's working as it should.

Well i looked under the hood today and noticed that this piece was just sitting there .....and it looks like someone cut the lines in the other picture .....if this is why heat is not coming out what parts are these and how much do they cost to replace ....thanks for any help

The first part is the heater hose control valve. The second pic shows that the A/C has been ripped out of the car. The hoses to the heater core should be connected at the firewall, to the right (closer to the engine) of that bump out where the A/C was. So the pic doesn't show if the heater core was bypassed, or if just the valve was. With having no heat, my bet is the core was bypassed. Post a pic of the engine from the passenger side, showing the intake manifold and water pump. That will tell what's going on.
