New here. Engine swap ???

Hi all new here. So I have a 84 trans am with a 383 stroker in it. My aunt bought it brand new and wanted it to be faster so my uncle built her his nasty motor. Was to much for her so the car sat since 87. 12000 original miles very sad. Well she gifted he car to me. Problem is the car was sitting in the yard so many years the rear unibody rotted totally away beyond reasonable repair. Well today I was putting my daughter on the bus and saw a camaro with a for sale sign. Guy only wanted 150 buck scrap price. Awesome. Bought it. It has a v6 in it. I wanna put my drive train in. It's a v6 auto I want to convert it to the stroker with the manual tranny and posi rear. Not to concerned about the auto to manual I have done it once to a civic. But what I am concerned about is the motor mounts. I have searched the Internet but everything I find seems to contradict itself. So about the mounts are they bolt and play or do they need to be welded in a diffrent location. Thanks in advance.

Before you go too hog wild, I would take a hard look at what you have and realistically think about what you want out of the car. You have a motor, that you may not know 100% for sure is what it is claimed to be....and its been sitting for 25 years. I'm not saying your family lied, but that would have been quite the swap out to do in 84ish...normally there is some machining work to be done to make sure the crank has clearance on the 350 block....that may have been done, but at the least you would want to do a complete teardown. Mounts are simple...buy V8 mounts, make sure you are buying the entire assembly, not just a rebuild kit. Good luck!

I'm sure about the motor because the block is stamped on front by the company that did the bottom end work. Can I use the v8 mounts from the trans am and do they mount in the same location? The motor runs great I have driven it up and down the road with the rotted unibody to test the transmission etc.. Seems to be in great running condition.

wow

what did you have to do to get the engine running after 25 years?

Probably used Seafoam, that stuff seems to "fix" everything else on an engine! ;)

you have everything you need to swap it. the mount nuts are a pain to get into because of their location in the k-member, but since you have a v8 donor car, you have it all

I had to put a new carb on changed the oil battery etc. but it runs great

come on????

after 25 years???????

what did they do to prep the engine etc for the long slumber?

I'm serious, how did you get an engine/fuel tank/fuel line which had been sitting for 25 years to start with just a carb and oil change?

If there was something done to store or revive the vehicle then many here want to know the process.

I've tossed out almost everything from a car which was sitting for only 5 years up on blocks with plastic underneath and it was under a cover.

Yea the motor mount nuts suck to get off i put new mounts on mine and it took me awhile to find the right position to hold the ratchet and the wrench also the nuts fell into the k memeber and were never seen again.

Yeah just take the mounts from the v8 car you already have and throw them in the six cylinders
