Default Need someone who knows about '86 verts

First off i want to introduce myself. I didn't see a Intro Thread so i just thought i'd add it w/ my post.

I'm Joe, 19. Live in algonquin Illinois. Going to school at UTI for Auto/diesel + an MSAT. I got 2 other cars, a '92 240sx (drift/daily) and a '67 mustang ( fun car)

My car is a 1986 Camaro Convertable v6. 55k miles and all original. Nothing has been changed but the radio and speakers. Last week i retrofitted the a/cto r134a (i'm 609 certifited) and it blows cold and doesn't leak

It has never seen a winter and the last 3k miles were from me driving back and forth to school everyday which comes out to about 500 milesa week highway. Never had problems w/ emissions or anything. Only work thats been done was replacing a heater hose because one got a crack in it.

I'm trying to see what the value of the car is. My parents have had it since 1986. Everything works but the windshield sprayer motor.

Here are some pix.

Everything is power, and the windows are tinted.

Thanks,

Joe

because its a v6, i wouldnt say more than $4000. the car does look really clean though, butmost peoplein the market for a camaro are looking for v8's, unless they want a project car. blue book value i'm not sure on, but since its an 86, its not really a rare car, so i cant see more than $4000

Are you sure its an 86? I don't think the convertables came back until 87.It does look really nice. Some one should not have put that molding on it. Specialy on the front of the fender and rear of the quater. Look at any one with molding from the factory. No one ever puts it there. Was it an old person that owned it. They do wierd stuff at times
Maybe what you can do is look on autotrader.com and see what comparable cars are selling foracross the nation.

Nothing was changed on this car. Thats how it came from the dealer. I cant look up 86 vert cause it's limited and isn't an option on KBB.

Thats because convertable was not an option in 86. It was in 87. Look it up for an 87. You might have a late 86 which would be an 87 MY.

value i cant tell u for certain, but in know in central pa, when i was looking for a v6 for my project, i stumbled apon a couple verts, priced anywhere from 1500-6000 for the v6's,the one i saw for 6000 is still for sale to this day and that was over two years ago. and the car is cherry some old ladys church car. if the car is actually a factory vert from 86 you could have some extra value on there just cause its very rare, but rember just because your rents bought it as a vert doesnt mean it left factory that way, check the tags and rpo codes it could have been dealer modified i know of this being done to the pre vert cars by the dealers themselfs in some cases and then being stuck on the lot, they started doing it in the mid 70's to camaros and didnt stop until 87 when they started coming factory again.

either way, on a very good day with the right buyer you might be able to push 4000, this is one of those cars thats actually worth more if its not orignal, if money is what your after youll get more for dropping a v8 in it than leaving it all orignal.
