906 or 062 three triangles on front. The 906 have a hardened exhaust seat no significant difference other than that. This explains a little why they are prefered over the older castings. http://www.chevymania.com/tech/vortec.htm As a side note I would leave the valves alone if they are ok.. increaseing the size may not help light cleanup of the exhaust port can help some.

The guy with the vortec heads says they will bolt on to my mid 70's block, and he is selling edelbrock intake 2104 with the package. He refers to it all as 'TBI' heads.....will the 2104 manifold work?

Get the casting number, typically what is refered to as tbi heads are a swirl port design they are not worth the money or your time.

Up here in Syracuse, good junkyards are hard to find......its even harder to find anything earlier than about 1990 because they have long since rotted and been crushed. Also, pulling parts in the dead of winter is near impossible in a junkyard.....and this is supposed to be a 'winter' project. Junkyards up here are also NOT cheap, if they know they have something you want, they will rape you for it. I had a guy try and sell me a rear end for 500 bucks once. All I wanted was the gears. After some thoughtful negotiation and telling him I could buy AND install new for less, he came down to 350. I told him to get bent.....

i heard that vortec heads off late model tahoes and what not work on the motors too? im not entirely sure, but that is pretty expensive and ridiculous. i bought an entire used rear end for my 97 t/a for 200 with like 14000 miles on it

New Vortecs http://paceperformance.com/index.asp...D&ProdID=24756 Try telling the yard you have a 97 tahoe and need a set of heads, some of the yards around me wouldnt sell them if I told them I was going to put them on a camaro. I bought a set for $200 with rocker arms valve covers and the gaskets(they are reusable).
