im looking to buy a 1987 camaro there is one about 70 miles from me that i am going to look at,5 spd, it has the 350 swap in, 140,000 miles on the chasis and about 80k on the motor. the motor is from 1983. is this a good deal, how reliable will the car be? generally how are they to maintain, will it be a money pit or will it keep going no matter what.

THE 350 AND 5 SPEED COMBO IS GREAT. NOW THE ONLY THING IS LIKE EVERYTHING IN THIS WORLD IF YOU TAKE CARE OF IT DO ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A PROBLEM. MY CAR IS A '92 IT HAD 200K ON THE ORIGINAL 305 IT CAME WITH BEFORE I PULLED IT OUT AND GUESS WHAT IT WAS STILL RUNNING STRONG. AND THE TRANNY A 700R4 WHICH STILL IS IN THE CAR HAS 205K ON IT AND NO SLIPS AND NO PROBLEMS THE ONLY THING IS IM OVERPOWERING THE TRANNY SO IM TAKING IT EASY. THE CAR WILL BE A MONEY PIT ONLY IF YOU LET IT BE. THESE CARS ARE FUN TO DRIVE AND ANOTHER THING IS THEY ARE CHEVYS !!!!!!!!

you do have to realize that any car will have problems, and since these cars are getting up there in years, you will have to spend some money to keep it maintained. but as he^ said, regular maitenence will go a long way to keeping money in your pocket.
