Just bought my first gen 3

Just picked up a 92 Z28. 305 auto nice shape. I want to put a nice sounding exhaust on it. I want a nice tone not a blatty harley kinda exhaust. Any suggestions? Thanks Stumper

Congrats, last year of the 3rd gen, throttle body? TPI?

Get a set of headers, leave the old exhaust pipes and mufflers, IMO that will sound great and wont be like a harley lol, i have headers w/true dual exhaust and two cherry bombs lol the f***er is loud lol.

if you want something that has some tone to it under power but isnt all that loud, look into a "super turbo" muffler. thrust and dynomax both make one. its not as loud as a chambered muffler, and is smoother sounding than a glass pack or other fiberglass matted muffler. they arent that expensive either

TPI, I am no longr a performance driven guy, my overall experience with headers are if you want all there is they are a necessity other wise every car I owned that I did not race I found the under hood heat, the extra heat on all the wire components just a P.I.T.A. but you are right they sound great with the right mufflers. That's some project you have going on, how is it progressing? Looks like a great car to start with. Thanks for the info I am sure I will MANY more questions for you GEN 3 folks. Jim

Nothing beats the old fashioned muscle sound of a set of cherry bombs. As a bonus, they fit anywhere.

Hey Scott I am also putting together a 350 bored .040 with ported and polished heads in my other toy a jeep cj7 what intake are you using with the carburator?

ScottD 04-23-2010 04:20 PM

Standard summit stage 1. Anything else (like high rise) just keeps the mixture a little cooler. I did quite a bit of research and the basic 'stage 1' intakes are sufficient for most all street motors. I went to vortec heads so I had to swap out my perfectly good intake....

You building on a budget? Ive still got my old Edelbrock intake sitting around.....

The mufflers that advance auto sells are cheap and sound good on these cars. I think they are turbo thrush. They have good flow, great bang for your buck.

cat back exhaust is the best for your buck flowmaster is number 1!

blackz87 05-08-2010 07:27 AM

3" mandrel bend Catback will be the best choice for performance. You pick the MFG. and the sound you want. Also removing the Cat and loud do not equal performance.
