Instrument panel problems
Hello all! New to the forum. Just bought my 1st camaro, a 1991 RS with 305-V8 and automatic. Love this car. Please help with my 1st problem. Recently the speedometer began working intermittently and there are times when it is not working that if you hit a bump in the road it will start working again. I figured the speed sensor on the transmission needed replaced. However, tonight both the fuel gauge and the oil pressure gauge were suddenly no longer backlit and now the oil pressure reads zero and the fuel guage is on empty. Can there be a loose connection in the dash that would cause the speedo, fuel gauge, and oil pressure guage to all have problems? Where should I start looking for the problem(s)?

The gauge cluster has a flexible PC board on the whole back that the gauges connect to, no wires on the cluster at all. The cluster then plugs into a receptacle in the dash. The copper connections on either the plug or receptacle could be corroded, or loose fitting. Since so many of your gauges are affected, I would remove the cluster and check that connection out first.

Did you fix it?

One post wonder, and last time here was 2 days after the initial post. I'm hearing crickets chirping by now!

Yes, My 92RS kept blowing gauge fuses, after pulling gauges out and disconnecting lots of stuff, fuse would still blow. traced it to high blower relay. Could not find any schematic that showed power from gauge fuse going to blower relay. So if you lose gauge fuse even with all the wiring undone you know where to go. mine was fried, don't know why, replaced it and haven't had a problem in over a year

Hey I'm still here but it's been a cold winter and my garage is not heated. I hope to get the gauge cluster pulled out in the next few weeks.
