How Much Of The AC Can One Remove?

We have a 1986 camaro that has a 350 (bored over .060) in it. The AC compressor has never been in it since we have owned it. Is there any reason that we need to keep any of the AC components. I'm not sure what the technical term for the the plastic housing up on the firewall is, but is there any reason to keep that in there?

If the answer is no, does anyone know of any after market cover that would go over the hole in the firewall?

Thanks.

WOW

bored .060 over!!!! either the engine has been rebuilt twice or it had some serioius cylinder issues. You understand that the block is toast the next time around??

You can remove as much weight as you wish for the track but honestly, the compressor is the most weight and you'll gain next to nothing removing the rest.

Maybe you'll get better cooling removing the condensor up front

Yes you can remove the whole heater box and there are firewall plates out there to cover it up with. or you can make one yourself

1982-92 GM F-Body AC Delete Cover for Camaro, Firebird, and Trans AM

Thanks for the replies everyone. Yep we know we are at the end of the road with this block. Not worried about the weight as much as just getting everything out of the way to put the engine back in it.

Where would a guy find a firewall cover? Summit or some place like that?

Thanks again Everyone. I appreciate you all taking the time.

I was able to get AC delete firewall cover at the wrecking yard.
