Default How many splines are my axles? 26 or 28?

I have a 91 RS,open axlerear end. Iwas planning on just getting a posi locker etc. from anIROC camaro or firebird when I read this about third gen camaros....

"All these cars came with 26 spline axles up to 89 and then only few, Very few had 28 spline axles from 89 - 92

So how do I know how many spline my axles are? Am I correct in guessing that it might only be the Z-28's and IROC's with posi that got the 28 spline axles from 89-92? If so, that means I need new axles to do the conversion....?

Really the only way to tell is to pull the axle out. But you do NOT need new axles for the "conversion" unless you have some SERIOUS engine mods

By 91 model year the changeover from the 26 to the 28 spline axle shafts was complete . You have 28 spline axle shafts. 1990 was the iffy year.

Thanks that's what I was hoping to hear. Above I said "posi locker" and that shows how little I knew a few days ago. Posi-trac is GM's name for their limited slip, and Govloc is their name for their locker, correct? which is better to get?

Do a little more research on aftermarket limited slips. A Govlock is not the name of a locker rear. You are still confused about what you want to replace the stock open rear you have now and a "Locker" is Not what you want.

I know what I want is a positraction limited slip, and not a gov-loc... If a gov-loc is not a locker, what is it?

A poor design of Limited Slip by Chevolet installed mainly in small trucks like the S10.
