Looks like your dream Camaro is about to turn into a nightmare. I've seen 3rd gens like this before. From what you're describing, the frame section, where the front of the trailing arm is mounted, is rusted away and the trailing arm and rearend assembly is floating around. For starters, the car is very dangerous to drive like this, as it can cause the car to dart off on it's own in any uncontrollable direction it wants to. To fix the problem, a replacement frame rail, and most likely the structural floor section is needed to be welded in. You just bought this car. One of the things you should have done is gotten under the car and looked for rust in important places. You noticed it now, but now is too late. Seeing the rust before buying the car would have been the time to run away.
Moved your thread to the 3rd gen section.

The rear mount can be repaired but it is not a job for a beginner. Adding a brace is not going to help. To be a safe car the whole area must be replace and supported. This will most likely mean a large section of floor. Having it repaired right it will cost you 3-4 times what you could buy a solid 91 body for. The real danger is someone pulling out in front of you and you slam on the brake. If one side lets go the car could shoot to the side and send you into something or into a barrel roll.
Back in the day the dealership I worked for offered a repair for this issue. It cost right around $2600 and the repair has to be verified on a frame machine. That was 1990 labor prices. I would guess today 5-6K would be about right.
I realize I am saying the same thing as the other guys but I just wanted you to understand, this car is not safe and not worth fixing. In the future you should have a mechanic check out cars before you buy them.
