Does the car turn over when it won't start? If the battery is not dead, the car does not turn over or make a *click* when you try to start, and the word SECURITY lights up in the gauge cluster, the problem is indeed electrical, with the VATS.
If this is the case, the metal contacts on the small pellet in your key should be cleaned and maybe lightly sanded to remove possible corrosion. This may fix the problem, although if you have it as bad as I did, the problem will be somewhere further down in the system, and you'll need to get a new PROM with VATS disabled.

did u scann it for trouble codes. not that hard. we could go though all the things it could be and it could cost some major coin. could be bad wire somewhere, ignition modual, coil, opti, maf, tps, iac, 02 sensors, fuse, oil pressure sensor, plugs, plug wires, coil wire, ecu. the tach is not moving so i am thinking ignition modual, opti or coil.

its not the coil i took my buddys 89 silverado a and it still wouldnt start and i know thats good because his truck runs perfect but is there anyway to know if its the ignition module and where is it located
