Ok, If I understand this correct, you have a 1990 305.
That car did not originally come carbed, most likely it was TBI. So as far as the carb being electronic, that should not be the issue.
1st, get a tach/dwell meter and verify your factory tach is accurate. Then, purchase all the brackets, adaptors for your current carb for the 700R4 trans. Make sure your tension and geometry is correct. Then, adjust your carb lastly....

Your car originally had a TBI. If whoever changed to a carb just ran the fuel line straight to the carb, it will be flooding out from the higher output electric in-tank fuel pump. A fuel pressure regulator should have been added before the carb, otherwise you'll continue to have engine running (or killing) problems.

Yes a 1990 305 and I will deffinetly get the tach checked out. As for the adapters I will order them next pay day. There is a regulator between the pump and the carb. It is set to 5.5 psi as I have seen a few websites say would be the best operating pressure for that carb.

it is important that you get the tv cable adjusted correctly. if left out of adjustment you can break/burn things in the trany. admin deleted the account for you. enjoy the site. oh and read the rules when you need to go to sleep.

Ok so a little update. I bought a new carb that is a little smaller only 600 CFM and it has a few more options to "fine tune" it. It a Holley 0-80457S http://www.holley.com/0-80457S.asp the Edelbrock was also stuck "open" it completly flooded the engine. I woke up the other morning and there was a gas puddle under the engine and when I looked under there was a constant drip with no breaks in it... so about 30 bucks of gas was on the ground.. any ways I replaced it and put on all the adapters. Everything checked out ok and I even got a after market tach. It shows that the OEM tach is reading correctly. Still only one problem the car completly dies going up hill... its fine on a sraight away or down hill so idk what it could be. Im dropping the gas tank tomorrow and checking the pump because my sister told me she recently replaced the gas tank because of a hole so maybe the pump got damaged. If that's not the case any ideas?

I'm wondering if your float levels are set right from the factory?
"Next Gen needle & seat design eliminates the need for external float level adjustment".
I like (not) how they make the lack of having an adjustable float sound like a good thing.
Holley's description says the floats are factory set and should never need adjustment, "Should" is the key word.

I recently droped a 350 in my camaro, was a 305. anyways i took the tv cable from the 700r4 centered it, then tightened it. I didn't have a problem at all with the tranny. Although i also ripped it out and put a turbo 350 tranny in a week later so, maybe you should check your vaccum modulator. IDK if thats the issue, but it might have a bearing on the problem. My vaccum modulator wouldn't let my t350 shift out of first gear, replaced it and blamo shiftn. definetly set the tv cable as best you can though.
