find out my motor???

ok, so my car has a 350 in (so i was told) and he did not what it came out of, its a carbed motor as well, soooo is there 1. a way to find out what the motor is from and 2. confirm its even a 350
*if it helps i had to change the alternator and its the same as one on a 91 camaro/firebird 350

My first guess it is the stock 305 LG4 (it is a Carb induction) which was standard in Transam in 1987. Or check the Vin, if the eigth digit is a (H) it was a 305 and 99 44/100%of sellers claim it is a 350 and this seems to be in your case.
If you want to get down and dirty find the cast numbers on the block and check them on Mortec.com

I was always told that harmonic balancers (sp?) are diffrent from 305 to 350. That the 305s is kida narrow and the 350s is much wider. And somebody told me that the dip stick is on the oppisit side for each, but idk how true any of these are.

All BS info....Externally there is NO difference between a 305 & 350 in 3rd gen car. That is why so many sellers claim that their car has a 350.

Definately go to the MorTec site that blackz87 told ya about.
The numbers are in the vincinty around the drivers side valve cover.
