FI swap?
What all do I need to turn my 83 2.8 from carb to FI
|
Good checkbook balance and low expectation for any improvement with the 2.8.....

money im not woried about but will it improve my gas mileage im not worried about power i already know i have a weak bottom end i just need better mpg's
|
would i need a new computer or just the intake fuel rail and whatnot
|
if you arent concerned about money but about mpg's, then what is the problem?
if you want better mpg's, buy something smaller. the amount of time and effort required to swap it out will not pay off for the 1, maybe 2 better mpg's you will get. if you insist, you will need a wiring harness, ecm, intake manifold and everything attached, brackets for the throttle (possibly), fuel pump, and probably a bunch of misc. stuff along the way |
Brain Damage?!?!?!

So what can i do thats relatively cheap to improve the mileage ive ordered a flex fan and the carbs getting rebuilt soon |
oh and just cause ive got money dont mean i want to spend it all i didnt get it that way
|
a flex fan isnt going to improve mileage since its always "on" a viscous clutch fan is more efficient, which is why oem uses them. if you really want to maximize mileage, change the fluids in the trans and rear to at least new, possibly upgrade to synthetic. remove the flex fan and use an electric fan (i picked up 2 mpg on my blazer this way), and do all the basic maintnance items like plugs, wires, cap, rotor. make sure tire pressure is always up and skinnier tires are less rolling resistance. make sure none of the brakes drag and that the wheel bearings roll free. you can also install a vacuum gauge somewhere your wife will see it so she can alter her driving style and stay out of the throttle, that will get the most mileage.
and if she cant handle a turbo v6, she must really step on the loud pedal to make it build boost to make it a handful |
