Ethonal Gas in a 84 Z28?
I have a 84 Z28 and i am trying to keep it in good condition. It only has 60,000 miles on it. I have heard some rumors that i can not put ethonal gas in it because it will rust out the fuel lines and other things. I have been told to just update the fuel system to more modern materials but i here that is a pain too. Does anyone know if the ethonal gas does what they say to the camaro fuel sytem? or has anyone updated their fuel system to more mordern stuff and was it hard?

alcohol is detrimental to everything, not just the fuel lines. ask any racer that uses methanol. on start up, it washes the oil off the upper cylinder. it can also damage float bowls and jets, and chews up gaskets after a while. the only benefit to it is you dont need to use dry gas because the alochol absorbs the humidty and water that builds up in the gas tank. my last 2 vehicles also lost a lot of fuel economy with 10% ethanol; my 88 accord dropped from 35 to 28 with it, and my 95 blazer gets 13-16 with ethanol, but 19-24 without it. its very substantial for me, so i still save money to go to a gas station that doesnt use it and pay the 10 cents more per gallon. shell and gulf are the two i know of that dont add ethanol
btw, you are only wasting money and fuel economy using high test. its harder to burn, and the low compression doesnt require it.

dont run it unless you have done the car to run it. 84 cars are not ment for it. it would require you to replace allmost ALL the gaskets and hoses associated with the gas. that and as stated above you will see a decrease in MPG. the E85 vehicels are set up to run the ethanol and will laso show a decrease in MPG as stated above.

The E10 that is pretty much standard issue fuel isn't going to hurt your fuel system.
Ethanol and Methanol are two totally different types of alcohol. Ethanol is a grain alcohol (drinking alcohol). Methanol is a wood grain alcohol and you'll go blind and can even die if you drink it.
Methanol is what racers use, and it is the volatile, corrosive, toxic one. The misinformation being passed around, such as what I just read above, (putting methanol in the same category as ethanol), is one of the contributors to the "a little alcohol in the gas is bad for the system" myth.
Google em both if you want to know more about them.

E85 needs a different A/F ratio than of 87 oct gas. Gas is like 14.x (12.x under WOT) and E85 is lower (cant remember what it is). Thats the reason for the drop in MPG. E85 is supposed to be cheaper, but every station rapes you price wise. Most common carbs have kits out there to convert them to E85. I would make sure your fuel pump is able to keep up.
E85 is nice to use for modded and even race engines. High compression NA engines and some boosted engines are running E85 as its got a higher octane rating and wont detonate. E85 was just easier to get, and can be cheaper than something like C16.

Ethanol is the biggest joke ever. It's so inefficient to produce and use. I live in Lima, Ohio where they built an 80 million dollar Ethanol Plant. Within a year, they were bankrupt and the plant was up for sale.

its actually cheaper and cleaner. but people are greedy tards. the first engines ran off ethanol.
really, E85 should be a buck or less a gallon, but is usually always about the same price as 87 oct gas.

You really cant get anything else in my area the ethanol blends are used partly to comply with clean air regs. The ethanol adds oxygen to the fuel helping it burn more completly unfortunatly it has less energy than gasoline per unit. The gasoline is also formulated differently when ethanol is added it is different than gasoline that had MTBE added as an oxygenator. I personally feel in a performance application the MTBE additive was a better mix for my low compression engine unfortunatly it has been mostly phased out around here. I have run the 10% ethanol in my old tractors 1937 jd b, 1951 ferguson, 1948 oliver, my 77 Triumph Bonneville the 79 Camaro I have experienced no corrosion issues related to the fuel...
