Default engine swap

I have an 85 z28 with a 5 speed manual and a 305ci engine. I want to put a 350 in it with more pep. I'm not sure whether it has a 4 bolt main or a 5 bolt main. (stupid question sorry). I was also looking at crate motors. What do you recommend.

That'd be 2 bolt or four bolt. Chances are, unless you buy an expensive motor, it'll be a two bolt, unless you wanna get one out of a truck, in which case, there's a chance you'll get a four bolt main. If you're getting a crate motor, go for four bolt, but if you're building one yourself, get a two bolt and get a machine shop to splay it for you, splayed mains tend to be stronger than a standard 4 bolt.

Be aware that the 5 speed transmission may not like the torque from a strong 350. You should be more concerned with that, than wether you have 2 or 4 bolts holding your main bearing caps.

Thanks for the info I was only looking to put about 325hp into the motor. I don't want to brake the bank or my car. I know that automatic transmissions are stronger when it comes to high horse power. The only problem I have is that they're not as fun as a 5 speed. Even one with a slap shift.
