Default Drive and Over Drive

i own a 1989 camaro rs 305tbi. and im jus wondering what the true difference between drive and over drive is. i know over drive saves gas and is ment for driving on the highway. but does the regular Drive have more Horsepower or Acceleration? anybody with an answer leave a post. thx.

It's just an extra gear in the transmission to run at highway speeds at a lower RPM, Saves gas and lets the engine work less.

You can drive in OD 100% of the time because 4th gear (OD) will not kick in until you go over 40 mph.

3rd gear is a ratio of 1:1 and fourth gives you .72:1
